Sheldon and Geni's 2018 Trip to Alaska
Today is: July 13 (19,020)
We woke up in: Soldotna, AK We're going to sleep in: Homer, AK

Shel: Short travel day, just about 80 miles. Arrived in a cold and windy Homer. Did some shopping, ate a a fish and chips place, and toured the local museum.

Geni: Very windy and cold when we arrived, but no rain. Went walking around area in Homer Spit Road which is like a P-town or Rockport, quite a few stores and restaurants. One saleswoman said she felt an earthquake and I heard someone in another store say it was 4.6 earthquake. Most people, including us, didn't feel it. They said it happens often. Sometimes more apparent to them because things start shaking in their stores. It was a quick one, but wish I could have noticed it. Went to some museums in the area that showed movies and exhibits about the wildlife, living off the land and the effects of the Valdez oil spill on Alaska. Very interesting, informative and it brings home what life in Alaska was/is all about.

View coming into Homer: Mountains, the Kachemak Bay, and lots of clouds

The end of the Homer Spit Road - which is on a thin peninsula

The husband's waiting bench!

A must see in Homer - it only serves drinks - but it's what's inside that is legendary

Hundreds? Thousands of one dollar bills from people who have stopped by and attached their money on ceilings and walls. Don't know why this started. We just looked!

Yikes. . .This is the only kind of bear I want to encounter!

Saw movie about family of eight children who lived with parents in 40's. How a woman would care for children and also do farm work. It was a very hard life. Loved the replica of a house with outhouse nearby
