Sheldon and Geni's 2018 Trip to Alaska

We woke up in: Chicken, AK We're going to sleep in: Dawson City, YT

Shel: Today we did the 'top of the world highway' Sounds fancy, but it is basically 108 miles of which about 100 is winding dirt road.

Geni: The ride from Chicken, Alaska to Dawson City, Yukon Territory was long, repetitive and scary. There were many spots where we would be coming around a curve and not knowing if another camper or truck was coming the other way at the same time!! Chances are it would have been fine for both to pass at the same time, but it was more assuring if it didn't happen. There were many areas where the highway was close to a cliff and when we thought there would be smooth sailing, it would start up again. It took us 4 hours to get to Dawson City, including a short, free ferry ride which is the only way over via this road. Now that we have arrived, it is easier to say that it was magnificent driving way up mountain roads and feeling like you were on top of the world!

The ferry that took only a few campers, trucks or cars at a time. You can see the other side, but all in all it took 10 minutes there and another 10 back to reload, so slow moving

This was a panoramic view of a good sized turnout as we reached the top (you can stop for potty or lunch breaks at these spots - sometimes sleep for night)
