Shel: Today we toured Dawson City. We started by taking the walking tour put on by the national park. We also toured the cultural center and the Dawson City Museum. We finished off the day by losing money at the slots and watching a show. Geni: Dawson City is a town captured in the time of the goldrush days. Houses pretty much original or copies of originals, as in most places, fires burned through the town some years ago. But it's fun to walk around and imagine what life was like. We went on walking tour where they presented both current life and past life through park ranger and old time character. Rode to the dome to see city from highest point. And ended day with going to gambling hall to lose a few dollars and see a saloon show. |

 Many of the original buildings were built right on the ground. As the occupants heated the buildings, the permafrost melted and the buildings settled. So many had to be raised above the ground to get free air flow under the building so the permafrost doesn't melt. New buildings are also built on cribbing to keep air flow beneath them |
