Shel: We finished our travels and ended in Stewart, BC , Hyder AK. Hyder is famous for its boardwalk where you can see bears catching fish. Well, not while we were there! The ranger said everything is late this year, the salmon runs and the bears aren't showing up due to the high temperatures. During our ride today we saw it high as 93F Geni: Last town to visit in Alaska and it did not go out with a bang! Was looking forward to seeiasng all the bears catching fish as we watched along the boardwalk. Didn't happen, although some people saw a bear and her cubs earlier. It's like fishing, except you are bear watching. You stand there and stare at the fish in the river and hope a bear appears. It was a long stretch getting here and it's not Alaska's finest area! We did catch a glimpse a couple of times of bears on the road. |
