Shel: Well, it happened, a tire blow out and I do mean blow out. I just installed a tire minder and it let me know the tire blew out after I heard it and saw the damage. Believe it or not, there was a fire truck right behind us and he stopped and turned all his lights on. Then they provided a tin snip to cut away the flapping metal and the jaws of life to cut the flapping thread off the tire. I then drove about a mile to a place to get off the road and safely put the spare on. We were only about 20 minutes away from the campground when all this happened. No one hurt except my wallet! Will have 4 new tires tomorrow. Makes trips much more interesting - NOT
Geni: After driving 5 hours and almost at the campground - boom - a tire blowout. Shel pulled over and got out of the truck. I thought he said there was a tire truck behind us, which I was thinking could be helpful. But, he said it was a fire truck!. We were really close to an off ramp, so they helped Shel with some of the damage and told him where to find a safe spot to change the tire. Talk about being lucky in a very lousy situation. I did have to take a picture of this unfortunate situation and tried to be discreet; but I knew I had to document it. We got to the campground soon after.
