| We woke up in: | Charleston, SC | We're going to sleep in: | Charleston, SC |
Shel: Well this is turning out to be the trip from hell. Previously we had a tire blow out, The bright lights failed on the truck, and the monitor cameras for the rear of the camper failed. This morning the truck radio failed to connect via bluetooth to my phone, the radio is at fault. Got into Charleston and walked around for 7 miles just looking around. Saw lots of nice big houses. Went on a tour of the Old Exchange House which had a dungeon in its cellar. Then went on a tour of the Slave Museum where they described all the terrible stuff that happened. Got back to the truck and the exit ramp for the parking lot was so small had to jockey the truck to get out and then wound up hitting a pole, damaged the bike and bike rack but not the truck. Did finish the day with ice cream though. Even with all the issues, still enjoying the trip!!
Geni: Well, you just have to laugh -- mostly I'm the one laughing, but it's been a not so good situation for Shel who is dealing with all of this.. Poor Shel! Charleston is a beautiful city, so full of history. So many grand homes, many were surely staffed by slaves all those years back. So many of these houses had beautiful side porches. You can only imagine they may have slept outside during hot summer nights. We toured the Old Exchange house where we were told about the horrible living conditions of prisoners thrown in dungeon prisons in its basement. Then on to the Slave Market to learn the horrors of their existence for so many years. On a lighter note, the weather was warm, we walked around all day long (turned out to be 7 miles) and ate some delicious low country food, shrimp & grits at SNOB for lunch. We had already been to some old houses on our previous visit, so didn't tour them again. Still lots of tourists around town.
