Sheldon and Geni's 2022 Disney Trip
Today is: October 14
We woke up in: Savannah, GA We're going to sleep in: Savannah, GA

Shel: So let me just say, Geni has done a wonderful job picking tours. Yesterdays food tour was great and today we had a tour of the Bonaventure Cemetary with Don. He was extremely knowledgable. He provided a history of Savannah as well as a history of the cemetary then led us around for 2 and 1/2 hours telling us about the grave stones and who was buried there. This trip is going so fast, tomorrow we head into Florida.

Geni: Very lucky today because somehow the internet led me to this guy who does tours. I texted him this morning for today and he actually got back to us and said we could join his group. Turns out he is a trustee at the cemetary and volunteers doing tours. He walked us through the cemetary and was so interesting and full of knowledge. He isn't part of the Savannah booked tours; I found him through a blog or something. We would recommend him: Bonaventuredon.com. He said the cemetary was one part Jewish and the rest were Christian burials. Earlier we walked through Wormsloe Historic Site, which is outside Savannah, where a settlement was started that ended up not thriving. It is so unreal that we are heading to Florida tomorrow and that our trip is half over.

Entrance road to Wormsloe is 1 mile long lined with oak trees. It is a well known picture and has been seen in many movies

Tabby contruction - broken shells, limestone, etc made the walls

Reproduction of a house in the settlement

They built the walls by weaving sticks through uprights and then cementing the outside

In cemetary, Jewish chapel where the bodies are prepared for burial

This is one of three graves that hold the ashes of many that died during the Holocust

Many sculptures on gravestones have meanings

Grave of Noble Jones, survivor of Wormsloe and respected leader

John Walz was commissioned to sculpt many of the gravestones

Gracie is also photoraphed often. She was a young girl who died at age 6. Lots of significance to objects on stone

Elaborate monument of Wyles, a rich man who was a slave seller

A Tiffany urn topped one of the monuments

Don, our tour leader

Composer Johnny Mercer's grave, Bench has some of his song titles which made him famous (Moon River)

This is the marker for the sculptor that did many of the statues

The campground we're at has 4 pools plus a hot tub
