| We woke up in: | Longmont, CO | We're going to sleep in: | Estes Park, CO |
| Our short travel day started out with breakfast at the nearby Waffle House. We extended our 1 hour ride to Estes Park by stopping at Walmart. Arrived at the new campground, felt like we needed a shoe horn to get the camper into the site, talk about tight. But the site backs up to a nice little river! Went into Rocky Mountain National Park at 2:00 on our timed arrival pass. Went to Bear Lake, hiked around the lake and then went to Alberta Falls. Going to the falls was only a mile each way, but it was uphill each way! We're used to walking at an altitude of 200', this was more like 9500' and the air was thin. Then a quick stop at Sprague Lake and back to the camper. Geni: We drove into the smallest campground I have seen. Shel had to squeeze our camper in this narrow spot and he did it without crashing into the nearby parked trucks. I hated the campground instantly. However, the back of the camper has a beautiful bubbling river and tables and chairs, so since we are settled in, I do appreciate how lovely the view is. Stopped at some lakes and took a walk to Alberta Falls. We don't hike, so one mile to a pretty falls seemed like a good idea. The falls were very pretty but the trip up and back was mostly up hill both coming and going, which does seem strange, but it's true. So although they don't call it hiking, it was a hike for us. Coincidentally, as we were leaving the park we heard John Denver's Rocky Mountain High on the radio. |
