Sheldon and Geni's 2023 Gillette Trip
Today is: August 31
We woke up in: Estes Park, CO We're going to sleep in: Estes Park, CO

We got going relatively early this morning and headed into Rocky Mountain National Park. A couple of wrong turns but we finally wound up on Old Fall River Road, which has a 9 mile dirt section. It was a narrow road with switchbacks and no guard rails. Scary at times. At the end of that road we wound up at the Alpine Visitors Center ( the highest visitors center in the National Park System) where we climbed (slowly) up to 12,000 feet. We stopped at the Continental Divide and then returned via Trail Ridge Road.

Geni: Nice early start, so fewer people in the park. Shel wanted to drive up to Alpine Visitors Center on the one way dirt road. It was bumpy at times and scary at times because it felt like we could go over the edge. It took about 1 1/2 hours to get there because the driving was slow. Lots of walking to high elevations and it was tough. We had to stop a few times to catch our breath and watch all the younger people move fairly easily up to the sights. Although there were younger people, we did see older people as well. Later in the afternoon, we walked around Estes Park.
