We woke up in: | Flagstaff, AZ | We're going to sleep in: | Flagstaff, AZ |
Nice day. We got up and headed to Walnut Canyon National Monument. We climbed down 273 steps to the trail, did 190 steps on the trail and then climbed back 273 steps, not bad for an old man LOL. It is amazing how they built there lodging in the stone walls. Had a lazy afternoon and then grilled dinner Geni: You drive into a national park and when you get to the site, it is always breathtaking. The canyon was so deep and large. Although it was a walk down (not to the bottom of the canyon, though), it was one of our easier climbs down and back. The trail was paved and had uniform stairs. There were railings in many places, which were helpful when pulling ourselves back up to the visitors center. We were able to see some of the ruins where they lived in 1200 B.C. and how they probably lived their lives. Hard to comprehend that they lived on these cliffs, but it was probably easier for them to move around than it would be now, with the centuries of erosion. It rained late afternoon, but we were back at the campsite. It seems to rain late afternoons in Flagstaff. The weather says 68, but it's warm. |
