Sheldon and Geni's 2011 Camping Trip
Today is: October 22
We are in: Hilton - Austin, TX

Dad really wanted to see the Alamo which was in San Antonio, about 80 miles away. Shel volunteered to drive, so off we went for a few hours. It was founders day there, so we got to see people dressed in period clothing who had tables with information specific to their involvement in early San Antonio. What I liked best was the model of the battle which showed a miniature view of the battle scene from all parts of the fort (diarama?). This was in the gift shop, along with artifacts and information. We really couldn't stay long enough to spend time at the various tables, but it was fun to see.

Got back to the hotel and ready for the buses for the wedding. We had to rush to get ready so that we could wait an extra half hour for buses to finally leave. Cocktail hour was in the vineyards beyond the restaurant. (Bride's dad owns Salt Lick restaurant and vineyards) The bride was beautiful and the groom so handsome. Ceremony was performed by their college friend who got a certificate to perform weddings!! Then we walked through the vineyards to a beautiful newly built building.

The flowers were beyond belief, the food was gourmet. The service was incredible -- each table was presented their food by six to eight wait staff and each table was served that way --so everyone at the table was served at the same time. The music was country western band and too loud for us older people to enjoy so we stepped outside, but earlier it was pleasant music to eat by. I did see a few people two stepping it, but not alot. Most of their friends must have been the college kids. Anyway, no expense for this wedding! The father of the bride is a funny guy and he said that maybe it was a little much when there were flowers over the urinal!!

Going back to the hotel, the bus made a half hour ride back to the hotel last to an hour by taking us through the clubbing section of town. We ended up arriving at the hotel the same time the bus that left 20 minutes after us arrived! It was both funny and irritating! But we all agreed it was quite the wedding.
