Geni: We got in our rental car and headed across the border to USA to the Ford Museum in Dearborn. It took about 20 minutes to get across. Shel and I went our separate ways for the beginning of the afternoon and it worked out great! He went on the Ford Rouge Factory Tour for a couple of hours and I walked around the Greenfield village which Ford had built.I also took a steam locomotive ride which took me around the whole town. Ford brought in houses of famous people and made a whole village. Houses were open to view with some authentic and some replica's of their times. I spent a couple of hours walking around the town -- going into millinary shops, livery stable, tea house, post office-- some of which made up the entire town. They also had a farm area, Ford and Edison homes and labs and plantation and colonial period houses. When I met up with Shel, we went to the area where they were demonstrating weaving, glass blowing and pottery which we both enjoyed. Definitely much to see -- It was great to be able to just run in and out of so many buildings without dragging Shel along and it was fun for him not being dragged. He got to see just what he wanted, too! Shel: Toured the Ford Rouge Plant. Tour consisted of two movies, one of Ford's history, the next kind of a hyped up show on how trucks are assembled. Then you can tour the garden roof - which I didn't. And tour the plant. You only get to see the truck cabs being assembled. They come in from the paint shop and the doors, hood, bed, and cab go their separate ways. Each going down a separate line to get the workings assembled to them. At the end they all meet up together and become the full cab and bed. You see the lines for the cab, doors, and bed from a platform about 15' above the floor. You don't see them coming together, nor being attached to the frame. Then you can also see the final inspection area - again from a raised platform. - Truck news - third gear definately toast, the transmission is out, apart, cleaned up, most parts are in house - expect a couple more parts tomorrow morning. Hope to have it back together and on the road tomorrow. |
