Sheldon and Geni's 2013 Camping Trip
Today is: September 4
We woke up in: Hermosa, SD We're going to sleep in: Hardin, MT

Shel: Gas - Gassed up just over the border in Montana - $3.89 didn't fill up hoping for cheaper. Finally gave up an hour later and filled up at 3.95! After we got into Hardin to the campground, gas is 3.57! BTW of all people to go on a roadtrip in a heatwave - why me? :)

Geni: Left South Dakota for a run to Wyoming. South Dakota especially was a state where you had to drive forever to get to wherever you are going and then drive forever back. We did so much driving and then we left to drive 2 hours to Devil's Tower and then 5 more hours to get to Montana. Shel says he is doing fine and i am crocheting a blanket for Hailey, so we drive and drive. It is still amazing to see nothing but rolling hills, or prairie or cattle -- no homes, no electric wires. Sometimes we drive into a town that consists of three buildings and sometimes we see towns with one main street and a dozen homes that make a neighborhood.

Devil's Tower was very impressive. It was made famous from Close Encounters movie, but it has been a sacred place for the local indians who hold ceremonies there. We got to Little Bighorn Battlefield around 3:30 and got to see a movie about the background and strategy for both the indians and the calvary. The Indians (Lakota, Souix) were being forced into reservations against the treaty which allowed them to stay in a designated area and they decided they would fight to the death. The Calvary was sent by the government to round them up. The graves of both are on the grounds. Also, there is a sign that says, stay on the path because there are rattlesnakes -- ewww

Lots of prairie dogs in the area

Snow fence - Wind hits fence and keeps snow from drifting on the
road (we have them too but I never saw them.

Mostly flat land, but sometimes we take a turn and see something else

Another great highway view

Finally civilization?

Straight road - nothing in view. This is what we see for hours
