Sheldon and Geni's 2010 Camping Trip
Today is: October 18
We are in: Still in the High Desert RV Pahk in Albuquerque

We met friends, Teresa and David (who used to live in Boston) for a mexican breakfast. It was a great breakfast and wonderful to catch up with Teresa and David who I haven't seen in a few years. They brought us over to Old Town in Alburquerque and Teresa explained how the Indians certify their jewelry and what is real and what isn't which I didn't know anything about.

They suggested that we go to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center nearby, where we saw alot of exhibits about the different Indian cultures and history. We also watched a video about pottery making which was really informative. They use a mixture of the red clay dirt and blue sand and just the right amount of water for the correct texture. It is molded by hand, and usually done by the women. It has traditionally been the men who do the painting and they use a very thin brush which is made from the yucca plant. To bake the pottery, they start the fire with cedar branches, but put pieces of srcap metal and dried cow manure over the pottery. They put dried horse manure over it to make it only smoke rather than burn. It all takes hours to do and they are not sure about the quality of the pieces are until they uncover each piece. No wonder the authentic pieces are so expensive!

Teresa suggested a good mexican place for dinner and was able to join us. (David was working) We had a great meal and were glad to spend some extra time with Teresa. The most notable difference in the mexican food around here is that they serve a mexican popover that you can eat with honey. We forgot the name but it is something like sopifilla?!!

Well, guess it's time to start heading home!!
