| We are in: | Nebraska with an addendum for Colorado! |
|
Travelling Day Today. We've made it to Nebraska -- the land is pretty much flat, farm land for as far as the eye can see from the beginning of the state to the end. Good time for me to drive the truck/camper for the first time. Turns out the road - I-80 - is the "busiest east-west highway" in america. Lots and lots of trucks travel on this road and zoom by on a regular basis, so, after an hour I figured it was time to switch back to the passenger side! We agreed that the pioneers were brave, courageous and patient to make their way across the country. Cell phones, internet, gps and restaurants really make the trip go so smoothly. Will get to Colorado tomorrow - our first stop!! Besides dinner, the only stop was at a Surplus Hydraulic Center that Shel knew about from catalogue shopping. We drove about 560 miles today. Speed limits are as high as 75 mph, but when driving at 68, we got 8 miles to the gallon. When speed was reduced to 62 mph, we got 9.5 miles per gallon. ADDENDUM: We continued driving and ended up making it to Colorado!! As soon as we hit Colorado the flat land turned into rolling hills. There is no civilization anywhere around in this part of Colorado.. We stopped for gas off the exit at a gas station upon a hill and decided to spend the night with the truckers who are parked here. The wind is blowing right through the windows of the camper and it's great as long as we don't tip over!! We are pretty tired but have discovered it is mountain time, so it is only 7:45, so we'll have to stay awake for a while!! We'll be at a real campsite tomorrow -- drove 567 miles today!!
