Today we did about 2 days of sightseeing in one day. We tried to see the highlights of yellowstone and was on the road from 8:00 AM and got back to the campground just before 6 PM! We had an interesting day. Mostly we saw lots of geysers that were real pretty colors but very stinky due to the sulphur and minerals. We did go to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone Park and that was spectacular. The colors do not come out as vibrant in the photos, but it was a beautiful sight. We are now bison snobs -- we don't stop to look at one in the distance and get excited like we did yesterday-- we ran into them on the road today, so we have had our fill of bison. Also, the elk seem to have the run of wherever they want to be. We have a resident buck elk and three does in the campground. Tonight, people set up chairs and watched them from across the water, while the buck stared back at us. We seem to have no luck riding down the "designated" roads where we should find wild life, so still have not seen any bears or moose, although someone said the moose population left after fires during recent years. Besides the Grand Canyon's beautiful colors and waterfall, I liked the Norris Basin geysers, because there were a couple that actually spouted water like Old Faithful. We talked to people from Revere and also bumped into a young couple from Atlanta that we had met yesterday at another site. Tonight, Shel went to the amphitheater (outside) and listened to the ranger talk about winter time at yellowstone and how the animals adapt. It was cold, even for him, but he found it interesting. We're on the road tomorrow.
