Sheldon and Geni's 2010 Camping Trip
Today is: September 25
We are in: Virgin, UT - near Zion National Park - 13 miles away

Last night we decided to recreate a pioneer's journey cross country, so we slept without heat and electricy (although we did have internet!). Really we were forced to live that way because the propane tanks weren't working and the heat wouldn't stay on. We managed to make it through the night and today took a detour to Cedar City so Shel could buy the parts needed to fix it, which he did.

Before we left, we toured Bryce Canyon and saw lots of magnificent sights. All the statue like figures are called Hoodoo which means a pinnacle or odd shaped rock left standing by the forces or erosion. We took lots of photos and are including some. They have names for some of them but really it is left for interpretation. We stood with people trying to figure out just which rock formation is "snoopy" or the lion or the horse!! When you ask people if they want you to take their photo together, it provides a good time to chat. It is interesting all the different people you meet. We met people from Vancouver, Canada, Boca Raton, FL, and California!! Lots of foreigners are also visiting the national parks.

Upon entering Zion late this afternoon, we saw an abrupt change!! We have been used to layering and taking clothes off as the day progressed, but it is really, really hot here -- 90's!! Also, the town is buzzing with hotels, restaurants and gift stores -- the park campgrounds are full, there are people everywhere and we are 13 miles out in an RV park. I'm not sure I'm going to like Zion -- really Big Business!!

Shel's comments: Well last year I had to replace the propane regulator cause we had no hot water. So yesterday that new regulator failed again. It didn't switch over from the empty tank to the full tank, and then the regulator got all messed up and wouldn't deliver the right amount of propane. The route that the GPS sent me to Cedar City to get a new regulator went over a 10,000 foot pass, made the truck work really hard!
