Driving through the desert land, we finally saw civilization ahead -- Las Vegas. There are casinos everywhere, inlcuding at our campground, which also has its own hotel and restaurant. We got settled, took a ride to Hoover Dam through the Lake Mead area and walked around there. Quite an impressive operation at Hoover Dam, although we weren't planning on taking the tour. Shel's pocket tool/knives prohibited him from getting into even the visitors center (it was like being at the airport with the signs of lawful regulations.) Then we drove through the Strip to look around. They certainly worked hard to grab your attention -- each hotel having its own distinct features as well as neon signs flashing at you. We called the girls to find out where to eat and Kara suggested the Eiffel Tower restaurant at the top of the Paris Hotel where we saw a great view of the water/light show at the Bellagio across the street. The food was delicious and the service quite elegant which does add up to expensive, but quite the experience! Then we walked around the strip, wandering into New York, New York and Planet Hollywood. Mostly we were in the casino areas rather than the hotel areas. I felt like a country hick (which I am really) wandering around the big city. It's hard to get your bearings first time out. I played the slot machines and pretty much had no idea what I was doing -- they give you too many options. I just kept hitting buttons -- sometimes I won points, always the points ran out and I put another dollar in. It is really fun to play, but I like the old ones that were simple and the money just came down the slot. When we got home we found out that we had a leak in the camper. I'll let Shel explain all that!! We were totally exhausted, so couldn't put the web up. Today, which is now sept 28 was quite an interesting morning -- more about that tomorrow (which is today!!) Shel: Well the fiasco of the day - seems to be a routine here ... Upon setting up the camper, I discovered that one of the jacks got bent on a speed bump - well we can live with three jacks. Went into town and when we came back the camper had been leaking fresh water. A hose I replaced (got the new one from Lowes) had split due to the water pressure of the campground. Luckily one of the neighbors shut the water off. So I took one of my water hoses, cut a section out and used it to replace the defective one. This morning (the 28th) the water heater blew off on high temp / high pressure again (second time this trip) so I replaced the safety valve and also the anode while I was at it. Found a local dealer that would sell me just one jack, but by the time I was done with hoses, valve, anode, and jack dropped $150!
