Shel: Well this got posted a day late, Stayed up late talking with Jim and Barb. Headed up to see the locks in action in Seattle. Went on a tour of the locks and fish ladder. Jim and Barb's flight was delayed, so we didn't meet up with them until about 5. Had a nice dinner and lots of great conversation Geni: Went to Chittenden Locks which raises the boats and ships in order that the boats can pass back and forht between the level of the ocean and the level of the lakes. We have locks in boston on the Charles river, which I have been through, but this is on a much grander scale. It is also the place where water ladders have been built as an access for the salmonand other fish to get from the ocean back to the lakes to spawn (and then die). It was really interesting watching the boats come into the locks and then watch the water raise the boats so that they could continue to the ocean and visa versa. Then we went back to Pike's Place to buy some fruit and also headed to the Pioneer District which is an historical area, but might not have quite made it there. We did find a spot that had a pretty water garden. This area is near the stadiums and we noticed that there is not a big parking lot, so guess they don't do much tailgaiting. Then headed back to visit with Barbara and Jim. Seattle was a really interesting city and I was surprised at all the hills that we walked at Pike's Place area as well as just driving around. |
