Sheldon and Geni's 2019 out west
Today is: October 1
We woke up in: Tucson, AZ We're going to sleep in: Tucson, AZ

Busy day. I took the truck over to get the oil changed, it was time. Then we headed out to Saguaro National Park and toured around the park after watching the movie. Then we headed out of town for the night time tour of Kitt Peak national Observatory. The road up was typical, winding with a cliff on oneside and mountain on the other. At the top we had a very nice tour put on by the visitor's center. We also got to use a 20" telescope.

Geni: Nice day spent at Saguaro Park - cactus for miles to see. It is so interesting how you go into a different area and the topography is so exclusive. The film we saw told of the native indians who lived here and believed that the cactus were the spirits of people and if you looked over the land, you would see all kinds of people. If you look at the cactus, you can almost imagine what they mean - so many sizes and shapes. The Observatory was a wonderful experience, although getting up the 12 mile high mountain was scary. It is pitch black up there and we had red flashlights to see where we were going, but not to interrupt our night vision. There program was very interesting and the young women who spoke were incredibly intelligent. They pointed out constellations and we also saw planets through a telescope. Saturn was amazing! Then, drive down the mountain in the dark!!!

Can't imagine how native people were able to draw on the mountain side
