Sheldon and Geni's 2019 out west
Today is: September 11 (36020)
We woke up in: Chatfield State Pahk, CO We're going to sleep in: Gore Creek Campground, Vail, CO

We started our ascent into the Rocky Mountains. The truck did very well although down in 2nd gear for many of the steep climbs and once into first just befoe entering the Eisenhower Tunnel. Managed to stay over 40MPH for almost the whole climb. The scenery is great going up through the pass. We found a nice campsite (without hookups) for 2 nights and then went into Vail. Parked in a garage for a mere $50 for several hours. Had a very nice stroll through the Betty Ford Gardens. Had ice cream and a wonderful dinner.

Geni: Vail is a pretty town, full of shops, restaurants and lots of condos. I can imagine what it looks like during the tourist seasons, but it was quite empty today. Lots of activities outside the village itself, so maybe that's where most people were, but when we left the area after 7, it still seemed slow. We walked around and went to Betty Ford's garden which was lovely. Probably was exquisite during peak season. We thought it was strange that they would put the welcome center up 3 flights and we were out of breath by the time we reached the top! It was a cool day but tonight is feeling cold.

One of many signs for Truckers as they went down the mountainside
